Chris, Great information about living in the sandbox. I have been thinking about going over there. I have a resume in with ITT and am waiting to hear.
Any other suggestions you can offer?

It's been three years since I wrote that information, so some things have changed, but most remains the same. For IT work I have not really found a good place to really browse the available jobs, which is frustrating on both sides. There are a lot of companies hiring for IT work, but without a good marketplace it is difficult for companies to find people and people to find companies.

All of the big defense IT firms have jobs over here (ITT, GDIT, SAIC, CACI, etc) and dozens, if not hundreds of smaller companies. Most jobs seem to pass by word of mouth, which is horribly inefficient. It's bad enough that I've been trying to hire specific skills sets, just to find that friends I have worked with in the past have gone and taken jobs where I could have hired them, but we didn't know.

I would make sure to check through clearancejobs, at a minimum. Like most job hunts, it comes down to your skills and qualifications. In this arena, that means existing clearance and qualifications.

If you don't have a clearance already, ITT is a great way to get your foot in the door, get over here, and start networking. Whether or not you stick out your full year with ITT before moving over and up, is your choice.

If you already have a clearance, especially anything above S, there are a variety of much better options. Most IT related people out here have spent a year with ITT cutting their teeth, myself included.

I guess I should spend some time pondering better forums for IT people and companies with jobs in af/iraq/istan to connect.

Just glanced at your profile and I can make a few guesses, especially for IA. Send me an email on chris.pugrud@gmail.com
