What I learned this month - by Orick

#1: I can put my pluggy back in my mouth all by myself!!! If it doesn't go too far and doesn't roll over and I don't get my finger caught and... But look! Pluggy!
#2: If I spin the spinny thing on the supertoy it makes noise. And lights!!! Ooooo.... Pretty lights.
#3: Bottle goes in the mouth, bottle goes out. Bottle in, bottle out. In, out. In... slurp!
#4: Mom doesn't have to sit with me 24 hours a day. I'm not abandoned, she'll be back. Really. Any minute now...
#5: Everything tastes good. Fingers, mommy, toys, mommy, the cat's tail, mommy, blankets, mommy, my droolly rag, and, well, mommy.
Must go eat mommy now. Mmmm... Nose.

Commuting to ... Iraq?

I'm not sure how else to explain this current trip. I'll go from home to Iraq and back to home in 17 1/2 days. Basically a 2 week trip counting 2 days in planes and airports getting between Baghdad and Northern Virginia. The trip is halfway done so far and going well. I'm back at COB Speicher in Tikrit, Iraq after several days at Camp Slayer in Baghdad. I'm not sure exactly where Iraq falls on the big list of the 50 worse commutes, but I'd imagine it ranks pretty high on the list. At least I'll be home for Christmas.

The highlight of Baghdad, outside of work, was getting to tour one of Saddam's private bunkers underneath the Victory over Iran palace. The bunker has been boarded up for the last 5 years and was just opened up so it could be checked for safety and environmental issues. The walls were still scorched and black from the flamethrowers that had been used to clear it back in 2003. My understanding is that next week the bunker will get sealed back up and once again boarded over. That probably counts as a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Now back to our regularly scheduled pictures of young master Orick.

Adventures at the Homefront

I decided it's time to post something more than pictures. So this is what I have been up to while Chris is smoking cigars and hanging out with the boys in Iraq.

Adventure 1: Cleaning the fridge. Apparently, something syrupy spilled in the fridge a long time ago and hardened down at the bottom under the drawers. But anyway... the fridge is clean.

Adventure 2: Got bored and went on a deep cleaning spree. Apparently, somebody spilled red wine behind the massage chair and didn't clean it up. Note: I do not drink red wine.... who could it be??? Also, dog slobber is tough to get off walls. Almost as hard a syrupy stuff is to get out of the bottom of a fridge.

Adventure 3: Dried celery. I can't seem to find it in large quantities or in any kind size other than flakes. So I'm drying my own. We'll see how it turns out. BTW, celery has a lot of water. This may take all night.

Adventure 4: Planning Christmas dinner. It's the only time of the year I get to cook for a large group of people and I really like it. All the planning and digging through magazines to find interesting recipes. I think we should have more dinner parties. Not just the ones where we throw stuff on the grill, but an actual dinner party where I get to plan stuff and cook fun food and decorate.

Adventure 5: I seem to have found a babysitter. This is a good thing. She's still in high school, so she's not available during the day on weekdays during the day, but she'll be coming over Saturday so I can have a solid block of time to get some work done.

Anyway, that is pretty much all that is going on here. Any questions?
