If you are appreciative of a free press, a press free enough to be as biased as it's consumers will permit, thank a veteran. If you are thankful of your religion, or lack thereof, and the freedom to practice it, or not, without fear, thank a veteran. If you are annoyed at your government, which allows you to protest without the dignity of being arrested, thank a veteran. If you are grateful for your right of self defense, and the means to enforce it, thank a veteran. In the end, it is our veterans who sacrifice their freedom, their faith, and their lives to maintain our freedoms, be thankful.
I am thankful first to my father. who had the courage to run towards danger. I am thankful second to my grandfather, who served in World War II. I am thankful third to our many friends serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, defending the freedoms of people on the other side of the planet, people they have never met, and will always defend.
Please take a moment to appreciate the freedoms you enjoy, freedoms that most people can only dream of. Please take a moment to visit a nearby veterans memorial. Take a moment to thank the people, and the families, that made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms that we cherish.
