Last week there was an "incident" at work. Something that required me to go out, do a preliminary investigation, confiscate some equipment, and write everything up, file a report and open up a ticket so everything could be tracked.
I also required some clarification of procedure from much higher up the foodchain, so I sent all of the information via email up the food chain. I had a pretty good idea what the answer was, but I wanted to get it from far up the food chain, by the much higher paid (but not necessarily more qualified) people so that if everything went horribly wrong I could, frankly, point at their instructions and document that I had followed the instructions.
The next morning I got back an excited email from one of these much higher paid individuals in a position of great authority. The first line of the email asks "Did you open a ticket?". I glanced back at the subject of the email they had replied to to make sure that subject of the email said specifically "IA Ticket #####". Yep. I think I was rather polite when I pointed out to them that the ticket, number #####, was referenced in the original email and asked for clarification to the questions I asked.
These people are exorbitantly paid because they were smarter about which company they chose to work for, as well as being willing to work in Kuwait. Good for them.
I will give them some credit in that the last week work has been incredibly busy and stressful and occasionally just plain silly with stupidity as people scramble to respond to some other "events" and make sure that they are out of the line of blame-fire.
